Enrichment Programs

Enrichment programs in the past have included but not are limited to:

Girl Talk and Life Coaches Mentoring

Male and female students participate in life coach mentoring programs with Mrs. Rowe, Mrs. Clark, and other professionals at Exelon.  They meet on a weekly basis and discuss life skills, academics, and other topics of their interest.

Drill Team

The primary extra-curricular for MCJROTC is the unit's drill team. Modern Close-order drill comprises the formal movements and formations used in marching, parades, and ceremonies. Formal ceremonies, such as the Marine Corps Birthday Ball, or change of command, will almost always incorporate some form of close order drill. The Marine Corps uses close order drill to teach discipline by instilling habits of precision and automatic response to orders, and to increase the confidence of cadets through the exercise of command.  Learning and practicing Close Order Drill is heavily emphasized throughout a cadet's training but is the complete focus of the drill team. The Drill Team competes in local, regional and national competitions as well as performing for school functions and local community events.

Masai Ensemble

The Masai Ensemble (meh-sai), under the musical direction of Doug Corella was established in 2007. The group is home to Rowe-Clark Math & Science Academy, a college prep school within the Noble Network of Charter Schools stationed in Chicago’s Humboldt Park district. By creating new sounds and textures in the field of percussion and electronics, the group prides itself by fusing traditional techniques with contemporary music. Students are encouraged to perform on multiple instruments i.e. piano, marimba, steel drum, guitar and barrels to name a few.

The Masai Ensemble is the top-performing ensemble at Rowe-Clark Math & Science Academy Chicago, IL. In 2009, the group recorded its first CD showing their diversity in styles. Songs ranged from  Homecoming (Kanye West) to Oye Como Va (Tito Puente). The group has completed their second CD entitled LOVE featuring music from the Beatles. Also recorded but still to be released are songs from Pat Metheny, Weather Report and Yes.

The group has been very active performing throughout Chicago and Wisconsin.

The Rowe-Clark Robotics Team is an extra-curricular activity devoted to helping inspire young people to be science and technology leaders. Each year students build a fully functional autonomous and wirelessly controlled robot that competes in a challenge with and against other teams of robots.  The team participates in the National FIRST Tech Challenge robotics competition. In 2011, after only 1 year in existence the Rowe-Clark Robotics team qualified for the Illinois State Tournament and went on to place 3rd in the state during match play.

The Euro Challenge is a competition for freshmen and sophomore students.  For this competition, a team of three to five students analyze the present state of the eurozone economy and the economy of a particular country that uses the euro for its currency.  The team makes recommendations for monetary and fiscal policy.  After the presentation, students defend their position by answering questions posed by a panel of judges.  The winning Euro Challenge team from the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago gets to go to New York City to compete against teams from all over the country for the final championship.
